Internship Junior Biostatistician (Machine Learning)

In our journey to impact patient lives, we are looking for a Junior Biostatistician (6 months Internship) to join our Data Science - Radiomics Research team in Pessac (33, Bordeaux).

Internship title : Machine learning to optimize the surveillance of patients after surgery for renal cell carcinoma

Context:

Nowadays, data-driven medicine enables to optimize the monitoring of patients with cancer. For example, after surgery for a non-metastatic renal cell carcinoma, clinicians stratify patients into low, intermediate and high risk of post-surgery relapse or death according to validated prognostic scores. The surveillance strategy of each patient is then determined according to its stratified risk. The prognostic scores used in clinical routine are very simple (combination of some biomarkers) but their predictive power remain limited. Furthermore, these scores (and the surveillance strategies) are only defined at the surgery time and cannot be updated according to data collected after surgery.

Study application:

The statistical study focuses on a large real-life cohort of patients followed longitudinally after surgery for renal cell carcinoma. This research project aims at developing data-driven medicine, by delivering dynamic patient-specific predictive signatures to help clinicians optimizing the surveillance of the patients.

Aims:

The objectives of the internship are to:

  • Develop a machine learning model to predict the risk of relapse or the risk of post-surgical death from the aggregation of multiple clinical, biological and radiological markers collected before surgery,
  • Develop dynamic predictive signatures, able to update the prognosis of each patient according to its data collected at each new post-surgery visit,
  • Plan the optimal next visit time of each patient based on its collected data.

Requirements

  • Engineering school or Master 2 in machine learning, data science, AI, applied statistics.
  • Solid training on the development of machine learning algorithms
  • Solid programming skills in Python and R
  • Fluent in english mandatory, good communication skills

Benefits

  • A flexible and friendly working environment with a collaborative atmosphere
  • International and multi-cultural environment
  • An exciting company mission that brings together science and technology to directly impact the lives of patients with life threatening illness.
  • A fast-growing company with plenty of opportunity for personal growth and development.
